Chantal JAQUET
Chantal JAQUET, Philosopher, Professor in Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, organized in the Sorbonne University during 2004-2006 a research seminary on olfactory perception and the possibility of constituting an art of smelling and an aesthetics of odors.
She gave lectures in France and abroad on the invention of an olfactory aesthetics and Kôdô :

2) « Une esthétique olfactive est-elle possible? » Colloque international Cosmetic and Sensory, Tours, 24-26 juin 2009 ;
3) « Le pouvoir évocateur de l'odeur», conférence le 9 octobre, 2007 dans le cadre de la fête de la science à Gometz-le-Châtel ;
4) « Le problème de la constitution d'un art olfactif », séminaire Travaux en cours, le 12 février 2007, Université de Paris I ;
5) « Le problème de la constitution d'une philosophie de l'odorat », conférences les 24 et 25 octobre 2006, Facultad de Filosofia y education, Universitad de Valparaiso, Chili.
She published a book too : Philosophie de l'odorat de 447 pages, PUF, 2010, the second part of which, named « Esthétique olfactive » (p. 129 à 310), is devoted to artistic expressions of odors and to the conditions of possibilities of creation in this range. Chapter IV especially deals with Kôdô and the emergence of an olfactory contemporary art.
Because she studied the affective and mnesic nature of olfactory sensibility and the diversity of cultural representations about the world of odors, she is able to deal with the anthropological, sociological and aesthetic aspect of olfactory creation and its reception.
