Honorary President of the Council of State of Lebanon
Joseph Chaoul is the Honorary President of the Council of State of Lebanon.
He served at the Council of State for 40 years as a Magistrate, the last 10 years of which as President of the Council of State. During the end of his tenure as President of the Council of State, President Chaoul served for 2 years as the Minister of Justice in Lebanon.
From 2001-2010, he served as Dean of the Law School at the Université Saint-Esprit de Kaslik in Lebanon (USEK), where he was also a Professor in law. Since 2010, he has been a member of the Supreme Court of Appeal of the OIF (International French-speaking Organisation).
President Chaoul has also represented Lebanon on several occasions at the international legal commission of French-speaking countries, as well as at numerous summits of heads of state from French-speaking countries.
